Practical Spiritual Guidelines

And Dress Code

 

Our Calvary Homeschool Coop classes serve homeschoolers who sense a call from God to be set apart for Him and who desire to reflect Jesus Christ and Him crucified.  Therefore, we do not want to draw attention to ourselves through body piercing, tattoos (permanent or temporary, multi-colored or unnatural colored hair or other fads.  We realize that God does not look at the outward appearance of a man, but at the heart.  By the grace of God, we have the liberty to dress, pierce, tattoo, or listen to any music we like.  On the other hand, by the law of love, our desire is to build up our brothers and sisters, and not cause our neighbors to stumble.  Even though we might have the “right” in the eyes of the world, by the law of love, we forfeit all right to the self-life.  It is the everyday cost of discipleship.

 

     But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his

     stature, because I have refused him.  For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man

     looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”  (I Samuel 16:7)

 

     You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on

     you; I am the LORD.  (Lev. 19:28)

 

     But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by

     Whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.  (Gal. 6:14)

 

As we grow in Christ-likeness, we will be less concerned about pleasing ourselves and more concerned about pleasing God and being a blessing to others.

 

Therefore, let us reflect these attitudes in our clothing by not wearing:

 

• Any clothing that endorses substances that are not legally available to minors or

          which have profane, violent, or sexual meaning clothing that reveals cleavage, midriff, back or sides

• Clothing that reveals undergarments (i.e. bra straps, boxers, undershirts, underwear)

• Tank tops less that 2” width at the shoulders

• Clothing that is transparent

• Shorts, skirts, etc.,  not more than 3 inches above the knee

              *this includes slits/holes in clothing

• Form-fitted clothing;  Includes Leggings.  

• Strapless, backless dresses or tops

• Thin, see through tops without a cami or tank top under

• Tight leggings must be worn with a top that covers the hips
